   They are 10th cousins, once removed.

   That means one of their great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparents was the sister or brother of the other’s great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparent. Given 25 years per generation, this “merging” of the family tree happened 225 years ago, or around 1775.

   FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt were fifth cousins once removed. Before Eleanor Roosevelt married FDR, her name was Eleanor Roosevelt.
