I’ll never forget the first time I found out what it meant:
I was a freshman in college, and a guy made the symbol toward me the first week of school, in the quad. I replied “same to you,” because, in my naivete, I thought it only meant peace, love, and unity. Then he said “no, this is what I want to do to you.” I was utterly confused. Then, a couple of weeks later, another guy in one of my classes flashed the symbol at me and asked me if I was free that night. I immediately went to a friend of mine, and she explained “the shocker” to me.
What’s most odd about this? The fact that I’m a man. I’m still baffled to this day.
Shocking!
It also means peace, love, and unity. But I guess she’ll figure out which is more his style…
